Marek and Crystal met as members of the Prospect Park Track Club. They're not quite sure when, but there’s photographic evidence of them both having a good time, at the 2017 Pajama Run. In February 2020, they got to know each other really well while hiking the W trail in Patagonia (read: "5 days in the same running clothes" well). They started dating in the midst of the pandemic, and they've been on many adventures since then.
In December, Marek and Crystal were set to run the California International Marathon in Sacramento, and Marek suggested a trip to Hawaii afterwards. After all, what's a few more hours of flying to the west? One day after the marathon, they went for a walk along the beach in Maui. Marek asked Crystal, “Will you love me and feed me forever?” Crystal immediately said, “Yes!” The pickleball players on the beach cheered! And Crystal and Marek were super excited to see what the future holds.
